This engine was my inspiration. I saw this engine at a tractor show just south of Harrison Arkansas in the spring of 2003.
The builder was Bob Engler from Arkansas
Thanks Bob!

This engine was built by Jim Service in early 2005. It is an excellent example of a 1/3 scale, 2.5 hp Red Wing engine. The 2.5 hp was the only air cooled engine ever produced by the Red Wing Motor Company.
The construction of this engine will be featured in the "Model Engineer" magazine in the near future. It can be seen on our "Editorial" page.

Here is a picture of the one I finished in 2000. It is serial # 09. The color in the picture is a little dark but it is green with black flywheels and all the brass is polished.

Hi, Finished # 580 a few weeks ago, and initially it had very low compression so I used an electric motor to spin it for a while. The engine usually starts on one try and will sit there and run until the gas is gone. Had some trouble with plastic building up on the ignition points so I milled a flat on the insulation collar and made a nut that would contact the timing lever when the ignition stud came to the flat and dropped down. Works good now but don't know about the long run. Have not started on the air cooled model yet but hope to in the next few weeks. Thanks for the inspiration from your Gas Engine articles. Every one who has seen the engine loves it. David N. Stewart
